This is kind of fun. Today on Hacker News someone posted this 2019 article from Pop Culture Retrorama.

The HN discussion is here.

Didn't one or more magazines also have floppy "discs," ie, a vinyl sheet that would not get damaged by magazine flex, which you could tear out and put on the record player for software in the same way? I know I've heard of software being put on broadcast radio too. One of the many accessories available for the HP-41 calculator was a bar-code wand. The neat thing about it was that you could distribute programs with nothing but a photocopier (or put it in a magazine), and the recipient could scan it with the bar-code wand much faster than entering it by hand from a listing. The mini printers also sold as accessories for it could print bar code from your programs or data.

In the Netherlands: BASICODE (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BASICODE). Available for several machines.

Wow! I used to have that album!
The funny thing is that the colors in that C64 program are the same colors I chose for my C64 Forth, but I've never seen that program before today.
