I wouldn't pay $1 unless there was some sort of power-up pic.
@enso: Realize, in the end, worst case you will receive a board that you may have to re-populate with IC's, so you may want to price IC's and sockets.... Then again, you could put it back up for auction for $1500 as "original and untouched".

Oh, I am not bidding on this one. I already have too many projects. It's pretty though.

For interest: I notice the datecode on the 6502 is 1476, which is prior to June '76, and therefore this CPU probably has the ROR bug. (Or to put it another way, does not have the ROR instruction - it wasn't in the docs until it was working!)

That is a lot of money!

I have also too many KIM-1s in my stock and plan on selling some. Four are Rev F, one is Rev A.

On my REV a the e ceramic cpu is replaced by a more modern black 6502. The 6530s are still ceramic.
Most likely the owner did not like the ROR bug in the cpu!

Pity, i could use the 1200 dollar, it will now be worth less.

Hans

If there is a bidder out there paying that much for something that may or may not work, I would dare say he/she is an artist collecting for personal or museum purposes and not observing functionality or trying to learn the silicon. And if they are, they're hopelessly lost!

Hans, I'll bet there's tons of artists out there that want there hands on a similar KIM for $100 less

I could buy a lot of Hostess Twinkies with that much money. Rumor has it they'd last longer on the shelf, too.

A bit offtopic:

Why the 6502 wasn't mass produced in ceramic packages, like the mc68xx/x family, or x86?

6502's prime directive was low cost... Plastic parts were cheaper to produce.

What is so special with ceramic then that all other cpu-s had ceramic packages? Extra cooling?
