Does anyone have any experience with this language?

http://atalan.kutululu.org

It looks pretty interesting and targets many retromachines.

EDIT: link to previous discussion: http://forum.6502.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1571&hilit=Atalan

Sounds like a rehash of C.

It sounded kind of familiar, so I did a search and found we discussed it a bit at ANNOUNCE: ATALAN - new programming language for 6502.

It seems to be primarily an optimizing macro assembler. Is that correct? I was trying to get an idea of how to do basic code things to get a feel for it, and found a lot of dead links on the website, particularly in this case at http://atalan.kutululu.org/examples.html.

What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

 I should learn to use the search feature. Added link in top post

I haven't had a chance to use it and know pretty much nothing. I was hoping someone would jump out and let me know if it's worth investigating further or cut my losses early.

Hi,

Atalan is high level language supporting rule based translation (compilation). That means, that in theory, you can easily (relatively easily) implement support for new CPUs or improve optimizations or add support for special operations, hardware etc.

The web site has not been updated for a long time, as I am currently rewriting almost all compiler code to improve it and to support some more features.

That's why all commits also go o special branch in the repository, so seemingly nothing has been going on with Atalan for some time.
That is fortunately not true.

Unfortunately at the present moment, I can not give you any other advice than to stay away from Atalan, as there are many errors and I am not able/willing to fix the old version of code. As soon as I feel Atalan is able to do something useful again, I will certainly anounce it on all major 6502 forums :-)
