Hallo allemaal,

I have some Commodore 9060 harddisks to repair. The 9060 contains two boards and a MFM harddisk. The first board contains two 6502's and uses SASI to communicate with the 2nd board, the controller, which on its turn controls the HD. This board is equiped with a lot of unknown IC's.

I have five systems and only one functioning controller. The others I consider unrepairable after two weeks of trying. The idea rose to replace the controller and HD with more modern stuff like a micro-controller and an IDE HD. But therefore I need more info about this SASI bus. The only thing I have found out so far is that it is the predecessor of SCSI.

Any help, info or URL is more then welcome!
Many thanks!

SASI, IIRC, is the immediate predecessor to SCSI. You may find the harddrives are accessible with a SCSI-I capable controller.

gives some history. Sorry for the long link -- I don't know if the site itself still exists, but I thought the cached copy contains the information well enough. :)

I was pointed to this site by Dirk Klettke:
http://www.swtpc.com/mholley/SASI/SASI_Hard_Drive.htm
With the given schematic and sources I should be able to find out how things work :) I will publish my findings on my site.

I also have SCSI information on "my part" of 6502.org: http://www.6502.org/users/andre/csa and a driver here: http://www.6502.org/users/andre/osa
