Thanks for sharing! I'll be digging through the various articles in The Chip Letter.

Histories are often idiosyncratic, or personal. Even rigourous histories don't always agree. But there's interest in the exploration, I think.

I have a discrete 8080-style ALU (tested and working!) based entirely on Ken Shirriff's hardware analysis of the 8080(5?) silicon.

It's on here somewhere but I think as a response to something unconnected and I can't locate it.

Ah, yes, sorry, I should have acknowledged that Ken's writings, and in a different way Faggin's writings, are also good reads - it's just that I've read them before.

(I do find Faggin to be a bit of a self-promoter, though.)

I haven't see (or maybe I missed it!) a mention of this in-depth 6502 article on 6502.org?

I've seen the article - discussed here - but not on this forum, so thanks for linking it!

Hi!

A very good read IMHO is the "Great Microprocessors of the Past and Present" by John Bayko, available here https://www.cpushack.com/CPU/cpu.html , it covers a lot of different and interesting microprocessors developed over a span of 30 years. Sadly, it was last updated on 2003, so it misses the last 20 years of history.

Have Fun!
