I bought this 6502 microprocessor from eBay and the date code says "1927"- shouldn't that imply that this MPU was back in the 19th week of 1927? Did I just get a bootleg/ knock-off 6502?

Any information given to me will be thanked and appreciated in advance!

What does the underside of your chip look like?

My best guess would be that its fake / reproduction, and whoever did it didn't know that MOS used an unusual WWYY format instead of the more normal YYWW: under YYWW it would be 27th week of 2019, which would make sense for a reproduction (or they just stuck some numbers on and hoped no-one would notice).

Here's 2 pics of the underside. There is some text, but it's really faded. The only word I could make out is "R6502 F2" and "KOREA"

There is also some stains and scratches on the bottom.

It’s a fake, no matter which way you read the date code. Congratulations!

I believe Jameco is a good source for actual vintage components. Unless anyone has experience otherwise.

eBay and Ali-Express are such gambles. What I usually try doing with eBay is sticking to US sellers only (if I can).

I think the part should work. No doubt it has been “pretty up” to improve its appearance (much like kids sandpapering old coins to make it shiny and destroying its numismatic value along the way), but underneath the new blacktop appears to be a 6502 so I’d say your chance of a working 6502 is quite good.

Thank you very much for this info! Now I a little less saddened by getting this chip! :)

Why not just buy the modern WDC 65C02 from an authorized distributor, e.g., Mouser, instead of messing with old pulls that might turn out to have a defect?

it put it simply, I want both an old 6502 and a new 6502. so my collection can be complete, though I also want a 6502 from Rockwell and the R65c02 from them as well, alongside with the other variants they've made.
