LOL!

OK, so I was curious what AT28C256's cost on Mouser and to my surprise, they are going for $259!!

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Mi ... grbg%3D%3D

So I figure, I can sell mine at a discount of $200. LMAO.

In all seriousness, I can't believe they are going for that. I assume it's the global chip shortage. But even before that, I remember they got up to about $12 or so.

I was giving away my 28C256! I did an inventory and found 58. I guess I should hang on to them.

Or sell 'em, while the market is hot.

I've noticed that Mouser has been pretty aggressive in their pricing for a while now.
Jameco has them for $12.25. While not listed as specifically AT28C256, the ones I've gotten from them have been.

Edit: These are the commercial version and are in stock.

Jameco also has the 65xx chips priced much less than Mouser, though not as dramatically.

Of course, nobody will pay that for a normal plastic DIP package. What you linked is the ceramic DIP package... very big difference. The normal ones are showing for a price of $11.74, so at best, a used one might go for $5.

You can get an 11 cent discount per piece if you order 28 or more.

I'm glad a bought a bunch of 27C256-55 EPROMs from Jameco a number of years ago. I've got about 30 of them. If money gets tight, I’ll put ’em on eBay and make big bucks. :D

Then there are these PROMs. Fast and cheap, but useless for firmware development. And if you act now and buy at least 28 of them, you’ll get a 3 cent discount per piece.

I got a little excited, and then saw they had zero stock, over 15,000 on order, and 88-week expected lead time!

Winbond W27C512-45 from eBay sellers is what I am using. About $1 each, 45ns fast (I run it like 35ns part), and still readily available.

When you buy them you also get interesting software included XD The vendors don’t even care to wipe them.

Well, I searched by what was in stock at the time. I saw the high price on the ones they had and thought it was funny.

My last restock was 10 for $21 from a shady eBay seller. Eight of the ten tested as working so I consider that a win. :)

The really funny part is I'm pretty sure it was the same seller who, when I tried to order some a couple months prior, cancelled my order saying his supplier had none left and wasn't getting any more.

I've previously mentioned $80 EEPROMs but, wow, I might have to add my Mouser orders to my will. ("And to my favorite lambs, $ADA and $B0B, I gift my pending Mouser order of 10 AT28C256 EEPROMs.")

HODL! You'll be the 6502 Forum's first EEPROM zillionaire!

$259 * 58 = $15022. You could buy a property in the 95838 zip code with that. I understand that the current owner accept EEPROMs.

People buy old harddisks on EBay to see what data is included. I hadn't considered that people do similar with old EPROMs.
