I understand microprocessors mostly in theory (although I have never actually built the hardware but I've programmed simple OSes for x86 and have read enough to understand the basics of the hardware side). I want to undertake a project to build a Hifi system which includes FM radio, CD player and MP3 Player from either HD, CD or network.
from some research I've found some chips which can convert MP3 data into Digital Audio (e.g. VS1001k chip, see mp3projects.com for more). So speed shouldn't be a big problem. As actually building the hardware is probally going to be the hardest part for me I was considering using an existing computer board. I've got a BBC Model B Issue 7 and realise that it uses a 6502 so came here.
So the questions:-
1. Could a 6502 do this job?
2. Could I just replace the OS rom on my bbc and add the appropriate hardware extras?
Thanks
Pete
