Tomshardware refers to 6502 as antique processor:

Mouser Sells Classic 6502 "Antique" Processor

Very cool! History is judging the 6502 favorably...

I see Mouser is also selling WDC's smaller footprint TQG surface mount version of the 65C02. Looks the same as a QFP package that measures 4mmx4mm. Now that's a space saver even I, a person who prefers softcores in FPGA, would consider using in a project because it is so much smaller than an FPGA. Too bad there's no such package for the 65816.

The article mentions the verilog IP core is also for sale at mouser, but I couldn't find it on their site...

Even better are some of the comments directed at those who think the 6502 is a doorstop.

I think "Vintage" would be a better term.

I like the term "mature and proven," as the design has been around a while, has (in the case of the 65C02) no known bugs and performs in an efficient manner. No other 8 bit MPU can claim the same throughput per clock cycle that the 65C02 achieves. Even the 65C816 is up there: it would take an Motorola 68000 running at 120 MHz to produce the throughput and interrupt response of an '816 running at 20 MHz.

Incidentally, Mouser doesn't sell the 6502, so deduct a point from Tom's Hardware for that error.

Are we describing ourselves here?!

Hmm, I did find four available parts for this search
http://uk.mouser.com/_/?Keyword=65c02&FS=True
(and this one http://www2.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=65c02)

When I ordered the QFP parts from mouser, I did a search for Western Design Center, not the part #'s. Mouser appears to be down right now though.

Hah! Gotcha! They sell the 65
C02, not the 6502.
