Few words about Western Design customer service from me .
I need to say this , because that experience was a something new for me . yesterday morning I have order 2 65816 chips from WDC , nothing special about this , every body can do this . But the way they work with customers is a top class ! . I have spoken to Mr . David Gray and I have to say : this men is extremely
friendly and helpful . So if any one of you have some problems go to him . five stars from me !

That's good to hear. I've always had a positive feeling when dealing with WDC, even when merely being an annoyance with technical questions.

I, for one, would like to see some fresh 6502/816 silicon in the QFP package... Board space is #1 priority these days. Keep the 40-pin DIP available for prototypers/hobbyists...

But also provide for your more serious enthusiast!

I used the PLCC44 package in my POC. It made the board layout a whole lot easier that trying to do it with DIP40. I did "cheat" and use a four-layer board. Two layers would have resulted in a larger layout and probably more noise issues.
