I try to avoid Texas Instruments because ever since the late 1980's when I first started trying to deal with them, their engineering support has been absolutely terrible. It has not been good to be seeing them acquiring other companies lately, like National, Fairchild, Power Trends, etc.. The other engineer in our company didn't want to take me seriously when I said that, until he tried to design some TI parts into products over the last four years, had problems, and absolutely could not get answers out of TI. TI seemed to be afraid that they would be helping him reverse-engineer things in order to compete with them. The last time we talked on the phone (we work 1200 miles apart), he said, "You're gonna say 'I told you so!', but you weren't kidding. Now I'm totally convinced..." and he went on to tell me his final experience with them.
