I'm glad to see you found it and joined. Yes, a bunch of us check it all the time, but there's not much material there yet. It's pretty new, and there's a chicken-and-egg situation where it's hard to attract more members and activity until there's more material and activity, which won't come until we get more members and... well, you get the picture. It may just be a matter of time. It was started because with the growing success of 6502.org and the way it has increased in expertise in the last decade, people were starting to bring their questions and discussion about the 6800, Z80, 68000 and other processors here, but we knew that diluting 6502.org would weaken its focus and be counterproductive to its raison d'être.

What's an additional VIA among friends, anyhow?

I do visit anycpu relatively often, but I think it desperately needs email notifications. I'd be happy to help promote it once that's working. I may even be able to help set it up.

I don't think it was absolutely necessary to have a separate site for non-6502 traffic, but Dajgoro wanted to set one up and he did. The negative feeling about the trivial number of non-6502 posts was only expressed by one or two members here, so far as I know.

Cheers
Ed

I second that! -- I believe it would be helpful in increasing participation. And we'll need all the help we can get if we're to overcome the chicken-or-the-egg situation Garth described.

Just my $.02 worth :D

Jeff

The administrator's options come in hundreds of menu items in dozens of categories, and, while looking for something else, I came across the one about email notifications which I had previously looked for without success. I don't have the info to set it up, so I sent the URL to Dajgoro, and hopefully he can get it going.

I couldn't open that url, but I found a way to enable that, but I would need to edit some settings files on the host. I currently don't have the ftp password, so I'll gave to get a new one.

Is there any progress on the email notifications for the anycpu forum? :) I hope it's not discourteous to make a reminder. Lately I've been having a dialog with bigmessowires, and after making each post I've also been emailing him to let him know there's new activity! Kinda silly to have to do things that way...

TIA,
Jeff

Honestly, I thought that the forum was dead, since there was a period of total inactivity, but now I see that the forum is alive again, so I should fix those issues. About the email thing, I found a file that needs to be edited via ftp, but I was left without a ftp password so I need to reset it, which means I have to call a friend, since only he can do it.

I haven't forgotten about the forum. I've been pre-occupied with other things.

I bought "Make: Electronics", Learning by Discovery by Charles Platt. The publisher is O-Reilly and I got it used and cheap through Amazon. I should really donate a couple of these to some schools because this electronics book is elementary to learning.

I think we may now have email notifications working on anycpu - thanks to Dajgoro for letting me have a dig around - however it's possible that the notifications will be marked as spam. So please check your spam folders and do what you can to stop them being marked as such.

Cheers
Ed

Those of you who use the anycpu.org forums may have noticed that the site went down yesterday, and is still down. Dajgoro has raised a ticket with the hosting company. I think we should be able to recover without losing information - the database has records up to Sunday morning.

Cheers
Ed
