The angled corner helps make it so you can't fit it in the socket backwards. Your intuition on how it goes into the socket is correct.

Hi, I have a very n00b question, so sorry for that. I have my new W65C265SXB board and a 128k flash chip. I have never come across a 32PLCC socket so I am a bit unclear which way around I need to insert the chip into the socket.
