Re: To pull-up or not to pull-up, this is the question..

Oh, yeah. I am amazed when I see people in YouTube just handling chips like anything else.

I leave my chips in their anti static bag, or transfer them from a tube and rest them on anti static foam. I handle them by the edges.

I don't think my cpu was getting power. I used jumper wire, but my ...

To pull-up or not to pull-up, this is the question..

Happy New Year Everyone!

Over my 3 days off, I threw down a WDC6502 onto a breadboard. I did a modified 'Ben Eater', where I was driving the clock with a sketch I had written for Arduino Mega 2560. Unfortunately it didn't work, all I got on Address and Data lines was $FF. I don't have a scope, just ...

Re: Operating System for 65C02?

(Got to love that custom microcode - thanks for that detail floobydust!)

Yes, microcode was stored on a disk drive in a special location. There was just enough "smarts" built in to go out and load microcode into control storage first, then you had a CPU that actually worked. Every now and then ...

Re: Detecting RAM size, determining type of acia/uart

Perhaps we should be asking what your goals are.

Yeah, I think I should think before I post. I am wanting too much from my system, and havent even finalized the features it will have.

My eyes were way bigger than my skills. I will start with a simple system, and add features after I can get a ...

Re: 65c816 (opinionated) assembler showdown

[Highly opinionated opinion is opined below. No offense is intended. This is my explanation of why I do not care for python, java and the like. If you like them, you are probably smarter and more patient than I am. Permission to speak frankly. Peace!]

You have not lived until you write string ...

Re: Detecting RAM size, determining type of acia/uart

Is it possible to programmatically determine which chip you have, such as a 6551,8250, 16450, 16550 etc?
I can't think of any way. Maybe someone else here has an idea.

I think I remember seeing something on my Linux box as the kernel boots about it detecting a serial port. I might dig into the ...

Detecting RAM size, determining type of acia/uart

Happy Thanksgiving!

Is it safe to determine the size of RAM by writing a value to a location, reading it back and if they are the same, you have a RAM address?

Is it possible to programmatically determine which chip you have, such as a 6551,8250, 16450, 16550 etc?

Thanks,

Walter

Re: A new instruction/variation of 2 (branching)

Yeah, maybe pipeline was a bad choice of words. My logic says having the PLUS and MINUS relative offsets already available would possibly help instead of having to do another instruction fetch and decode. But I will take that as validation of my concept :)

I just wish I could find a cheap 5 volt ...

A new instruction/variation of 2 (branching)

Hello All! It's been a while (> 1 year). Good news, the back surgery in May 2018 was a success, no more sciatica. But life changed for me when when I we lost my father that previous month. I've become pretty good at installing electrical services, plumbing, air conditioning etc. I can even shred a ...

F4;s would have been a bit before my time, We had F111's from Lakenheath, but I saw U2's all the time landing at Mildenhall. Never got to see an SR71, but my dad did, except he ...

Re: Introduce yourself

My life in the age of electronics started in 1978 or 1977. My dad was stationed @ RAF Mildenhall, UK and the high school at RAF Lakenheath had an Interdata 7/16 mini computer, 8 ASR 33 TTY's and 3 CRTS. I was one of six or so 10 graders in Algebra class, the rest were 11'th graders except for two ...

Re: Stupid Question(s) but unable to find the answer(s)

I am surprised how good my back feels. I have had 2 instances of sciatica within 2 months. My general practitioner prescribed steroids and a lose weight recommendation. Went to a specialist and after 1 MRI he stated that L4-L5 were herniated so bad that even shots in my back would not work. My ...

Stupid Question(s) but unable to find the answer(s)

Hello Everyone!

About 40 years ago, my parents bought an OSI C2-4P (I think) for me at Christmas, because I really got into the Interdata 7/16 Mini at school.
15 years ago, I was stupid and gave it away, really kicking myself!

So I have purchased a Mensch Microcomputer (dont know what to do with ...
