Hi guys
I've setting up an SBC design at the moment which will involve an SAA5050 Teletext Character Generator IC as part of it's video circuitry.
That chip requires two inputs: 6MHz to the TR6 pin and 1MHz F1 pin.
PHI2 is going to be switchable between 16MHz and 8MHz from a 32MHZ Source ...

Re: WinCupl batch file cupl.bat
Hi Akohbecker
Thanks for this. I'll give it a test 'n tune when I start working on my next ATF1504 or 8 design.

Re: Audio IC
As much as possible :D . Really, my forte is definitely not audio, but I'd like to include something. If that has to be a beeper, than I'll do it, but I'd rather include something that can do a little more, doesn't require a vertical learning curve and something that I can get to grips programming ...

Audio IC
Hi guys
Out of interest, what are people using for audio chips which are relatively easy to use and are readily available/modern? A lot of the ones I see in use are no longer produced and I'd prefer not going down that route. On top of that, they cannot function well at higher speed, although I ...

Hi Bill
Many thanks for posting this. If I got for some, at least I know where to get them

Re: Improving my PCB design
I've not seen a 36 pin SOJ socket available for sale. I know there are 28 pin and 40 pin ones, but I just cannot find 36 pin ones. Might be that my google-foo is failing me. Urk! After an admittedly brief search, I'm not even able to find the 40-pin ones! But I know they exist 'cause I have a ...

Re: Improving my PCB design
Yep much of what I do is to see if I can do something or to try it out for myself - even if others have already done it.
For instance: My 6502GPD-D v1 design works fine. It's limited to 16MHz, but other than that it's so far ok, but I hadn't previously tried an ATF1508, the SOJ RAM using a DIP ...

Re: Improving my PCB design
I'm looking at my 6502GPD-D design and what can be improved to get a faster and less noisy design. The design so far runs ok at 16MHz, but 18MHz or higher is unreliable-to-not usable...at the moment I'm looking at layout and PCB layer stack up.
Stack up wise, I've been doing a little research and 4 ...

Re: Improving my PCB design
[...] I had wondered (but clearly not long enough) as to why they had started introducing more power rail related pins. Good to know.
I use DIPs becasue it's just so much easier to swap out a duff part - but perhaps I should revisit that. SOJ sockets are a thing! So, the AS7C4096A doesn't ...

Re: Improving my PCB design
Hi garth
Many thanks. I'll have a reread as it's been a number of years since I read your guides/tutorials and I think some of it's been possibly been updated since
They're constantly getting updated, as new links or parts or solutions become available, or it becomes clear that something was ...

Re: Improving my PCB design
Ok, so far here's what I'm looking at. It is quite subject to change given the comments in this thread and also what I mean hear/see in those link Garth has kindly provided:
- Main bus ICs as close together as humanly possible
- Keep 'moslo' clock stretch circuit for ROM access, copy ROM to RAM on ...

Re: Improving my PCB design
I now use 12ns AS7C4096A SRAM using an SOJ to DIP adapter
Probably the biggest single improvement you can make is to get rid of the adapter and alter your PCB so it'll directly accept the SOJ package. This'll take some work, but not that much, and it'll provide a lot more benefit than changing ...
