Re: Newhaven LCD 16-character displays

Hello Garth,
we have exchanged emails in past.
My 6502 code works flawlessly with Hitachi HD44780 LCD controller.
The problem is that Newhaven display is using a new Sitronics ST7066U LCD controller.
They are supposed to be equivalent, since the new Sitronics chip copied the Hitachi specs to the ...

Newhaven LCD 16-character displays

Hello folks,
have not visited this forum in six years, so I am probably out of touch.
Have been using one line 20-charcter alphanumeric displays, 1/2 high characters, such as Optrex, Samsung for 25 years. Never had any problem with initialization.
Unfortunately, none of these are available any ...

I just ordered 10 of these from Jameco. I do not have much confidence in what they sell, assuming it is all defective. If by a chance some parts might be good, that will be a pleasant surprise.

I am also getting some Microchip PROMS, ordered today from Hong Kong:

Want to buy 65C02, non WDC.

Hi there,
I am in need of some 65C02 that are not made by Western Design Center.
I can use any frequency, 1 MHz is fine.
Any manufacturer, CMD, Rockwell, GE, GI, NEC, Commodore, etc.
It has to be CMOS and must not be WDC.
I will pay any way you prefer.

Some more DARNs!

Well, I took a good look at my power and ground distribution, and it is not too bad. I am very cautions about this and avoid at all cost daisy-chaining. These existing track are pretty much “star” type, each major component has its own wide power and ground track. They originate about in the same ...

Darn ringing!

The board is fairly large, 11" by 9", but the "computer part" occupies only 4.5" by 3". There are lots of other circuits, RF, analog, digital. Also, I have there 500 V p-p transmit signal needed to drive ultrasonic transducer. This transmit signal generates lot of spikes and takes lot of power, but ...

27C128 again

I hate to interrupt this thread,
but my situation is frustrating.

When I use old 6116 SRAM ,
the program starts and works flawlessly no matter what EPROM or PROM I use.

When I use NVRAM (Dallas), 150ns or 200ns ,
program runs flawlessly with Microchip OTP PROM, 150ns.
It will not run or ...

I can't think of any situation where 120ns EPROM or even 45ns EPROM wouldn't work with 200ns RAM.

I have a straight-forward circuit design pretty much standard 6502 textbook from Synertek days, but more up to date decoding chips.
I use 74HC*** family decoding. The NVRAM has Output Enable grounded ...

Got it,
meaning the Jameco's clever code.

I use NVRAM as a RAM also. If my EPROM is say 120ns and NVRAM is 200ns, it will not work at all. I need to match closely enough my EPROM and NVRAM speed.
The fastest NVRAM I can realisticaly get is 100ns. Most likely, that would not work well enough with ...

Garth,
how can you tell that these two items are not pulls?
By the bold print?
I have a hard time deciphering their catalog.

I face another snag. I have a ton of Dallas battery-backed NVRAM, either 150ns or 200ns. I will have to get some 100ns. But, Jameco's 266061 (100ns) is out of stock (or so it ...

27C128

Hello Garth,
I did indeed mean 27C128, I have corrected it in Subject.
I used to buy these from Digi-Key. Their web site still list these, but only because the web site program has not been updated.
They do not have any in stock and will not take any order.

It is surprising that they have plenty ...

Where to buy 27C128 EPROMS?

Hello there:

Do you know of any reliable supplier of 27C128 EPROMS?
I will settle for pulls (used ones), as long as they are not defective.
I used to buy it from Futurlec (Australia), but having problem getting it now.
There are a few suppliers who say they have it, but don't.
Then there are ...

SOLUTION !!!!!!!

Hey, how about this:

I wish WDC would license their IP to Microchip. It would be nice if there were a widely available parallel line of PICs built around the 6502 instead of Microchip's little RISC. Everything would still be in one IC, as it is with the currently available PICs.

This ...

Yes, PIC's processor is lousy. 65x02 is wonderful. Programming 65x02 feels like vacation, you cannot get tired doing that. It is natural, logical, it doesn't give you headache.
So, why couldn't someone, like WDC, come up with a single chip microcontroller that is at par with PIC or Motorola? WDC's ...
