Re: C64 died ... :-(

Our C-64 broke because the cable guy did not ground the cable coming into the house.

Re: A modern 6502 processor

The 6502 is an odd chip - everyone seems to love it. Clearly that has to be for good reasons.
(Sorry granny I know you know how to suck eggs....)

I was wondering what a modern chip built with the 6502 philosophy and "feeling"
would look like today.

It is called "ARM".
They started on 6502 but ...

Re: Ferrite beads

What's odd is that I cannot remember seeing them being employed on most other 65C02/65C816 designs. Is this something worth bothering with? Maybe if you have some components especially sensitive to noise?

It is kind of like this. The radio in my car is fine until I plug in my cell phone. If you ...

Re: What happened to Briel Computers?

It occured to me whilst I was trying to sleep last night (your morning, probably :) ) that I think this verse is one of the key examples from the "KJV only" movement, how the meaning of a verse can be completely (even if unintentionally) altered by the translators.

I prefer the original ...

Re: What happened to Briel Computers?

From my own personal experience of being online, other uses suck your time out of you because you know a little more than other people and every one wants help from someone who knows more. And they want to know why you don't have something built when you are helping them.

This is my experience as ...

Re: What happened to Briel Computers?

I worked with Vince Briel on the Superboard III and it was a pleasure and an honor. But I think even before that, he was kinda getting burned out on the retro computer replica idea. I can only speculate, but I think sales were going down and it was costing him a lot of time that he didn't have. He ...

Re: Manufacturing New 650x - Need help

Almost all of WDC's income comes from licensing IP, not from selling actual parts. Their license fees are piddly cheap compared to lawyer costs though, so if there's any risk of conflict, why not just pay it, or at least talk to them. It would cost a teensy fraction as much as manufacturing ...

Re: WDC Amazon 20% off

Why are the raw cpu boards ('02, '816) twice as much as the micro controller boards?

Six ideas why:

(1) People have to make a living so they aren't doing this if they can't make a profit.
(2) Marketing
(3) What are their expenses? My boss believes you have to charge at least 5% percent to make ...

Re: What to do with more than 64K?

Relatively often we see a 65xx system with more than 64k of RAM - sometimes an '816 system, sometimes an '02 system with memory banking or paging.

But here's a discussion question: what to do with a large memory model? What's the killer app, or the driver, or the useful-thing-to-do, with lots of ...

Briel Computers sells a Microkim which is a clone but you should have some handy soldering skills unless the preassembled and tested one is available.

PET Diagnostics - Upcoming Project Preview (using Atmel)

PET Diagnostics - Upcoming Project Preview

This is a preview of an upcoming project. Not sure if the name will stick, but at the moment it's called PET Exerciser (UPDATE: it didn't, it's now called 6502 Diagnostics). This started when I was repairing a few PETs and was using a NOP generator. This ...

Re: OT: Microchip aquires Atmel

I just read this in the May Atmel newsletter. I wonder what their future products will look like?

They look like this:

http://www.microchip.com/mplab/mplab-xpress

It resembles Arduino with the shield concept.

MPLAB® Xpress is cloud based and provides:
•Simplified IDE to get started

Re: SPAM???

Sometimes blocking their I.P. addresses don't always work because there are programs that people can use where their I.P addresses can be from London and another day they can be in Japan.
